KiD CuDi : Artist Profile

By Ryan Mullican

The bass driven beats of Techno, the relaxed style of Soul, and the refreshing lyricism that has been lost in mainstream Rap is all crafted into KiD CuDi’s latest album, “Man on the Moon: The End of Day”.Scott Mescudi, a.k.a. KiD CuDi [pronounced Cuddy] is a rapper out of Cleveland, Ohio.I suppose all of you have heard of “Day ‘N Nite”, a top five BillBoard hit, but like many rappers he has numerous unreleased songs on mixtapes that all differ from “Day ‘N Nite”.KiD CuDi is not in the music industry for the money and that is apparent when you listen to his songs.Mescudi raps, and sometimes even sings, about topics that are far different than other rappers’ mindsets these days.At age eleven he faced intense adversity when his father, a substitute teacher and painter, died of cancer, resulting in influences for many of his lyrics, freestyles, etc.KiD CuDi is the deepest rapper I have ever listened to, let alone musical performer.KiD Cudi’s lyrics have soul, heart, andyou will only know if you listen yourself.Interpretation, like always, is up for grabs. All of his songs don’t necessarily take you places, however they bring you into his thoughts.CuDi’s innovative genre is expanding as he creates more and more music that he calls his own.The “Man on the Moon” nickname, along with “Mr. Solo Dolo” comes from his idea that he is the lone rapper, who is transcending the music scene as we know it.No one can touch him, and so far no one has. KiD CuDi is hard to compete with because he brings so many aspects to the table. You can actively listen to the lyrics, or just plug it into some speakers as you relax on the weekend. The ability to have both of these is what makes KiD CuDi so unique.Although being unique never got him far in high school and college, look where it has brought him today.
